How to meet Etsy's photo requirements in 2026

Why Etsy cares about your main photo

Etsy's search and category pages reward listings with a clean, consistent main image. A cluttered background, a shadow, or a busy desk behind your product hurts click-through and makes your shop look less professional next to sellers who use an Etsy compliant white background.

The 2026 requirement, in plain terms

Your primary listing photo should isolate the product on a pure, even #FFFFFF white background — no gradients, no props, no visible surface. Additional photos can show lifestyle context, but photo #1 is what shows up in search results, so it carries the most weight.

The old way: $5 editors or 10-minute Photoshop edits

Most sellers either pay a freelance editor around $5 per photo, or spend roughly 10 minutes per image manually masking it in Photoshop — painful when you're re-shooting 20 listings for a seasonal refresh. Neither scales once you're listing weekly.

The faster way: AI background removal

An AI background remover built for jewelry, POD and craft sellers can isolate your product — including thin chains, hair, and transparent objects like glass beads — and drop it onto a pure white background in about 3 seconds. No more $0.20 per image like remove.bg, and no Photoshop layers to fight with.

1. Upload your product photo, straight from your phone.
2. AI removes the background automatically, even fine jewelry chains.
3. Download a 4000px PNG on white or transparent — ready to upload to Etsy.

Batch editing for shop refreshes

If you're updating a whole collection, look for a tool that lets you batch edit 20 listings at once instead of one photo at a time — it's the difference between a 10-minute refresh and an afternoon lost to Photoshop.
